The soup we cooked was a gorgeous result - rich and brothy with perfectly-cooked barley. This machine was easily a winner for great value. It was a great machine to use and certainly a good investment for its capacity, ease of use and searing functions. Even better, the removable cooking insert is light, non-stick, and very easy to clean, with heatproof handles making everything easy to work with. The searing option lets you cook like you would in a frypan, which means less washing up as you don't have to transfer from one pan to another. All the functions were very easy to use and whilst it had extras like the browning option, it was still a very uncomplicated machine, making it very easy to use. At 5.5L it's on the bigger scale again, but the shape of it makes it very practical, and because it's wide it's also shallower, which makes it very easy to cook in and work with (especially if you're short, like me). The Sunbeam slow cooker in searing mode (Supplied) I didn't need to do the browning in batches because the base was such a good size. The searing function was excellent, and I was able to brown off the onions and add the chicken to get some caramelisation before the rest of the ingredients went it. I absolutely adored the big, flat base of this large slow cooker. So, every additional extra on the product tests was fun to play with, but that was exactly the point - to find out if you really need the extras.
